How to do a perfect classical ballet bun.

Ok, I know how daunting it can be to do a ballet bun. Especially for the first time! I searched through Youtube and watched tons of videos. This is what I have found that works best for us. I am going to work on my own video, but for the meantime here is a Youtube video that I found from The Washington School of Ballet. Bun Tutorial

Remember, real ballerinas do not wear donut buns.

Ballet Bun Essentials

  1. Hair Nets: BunMakers Hair Nets

Shhhh, here is a secret. A hairnet fixes everything. It may look crazy with whiskies everywhere. Slap one of these bad boys on, and it will hide all of your hair sins.

Have one of these in your dance bag and at home. #5 has maximum hold.

3. Bobbi Pins: Bobbi Pins

You will need a million of these. Make sure you get the correct color to match your dancer’s hair.

4. Tail Comb: 2 Tail Combs

These will help you to smooth and separate hair. These crazy looking combs are a lifesaver when you are doing hair.

5. Hair Tye’s: Hair Tye match your color

6. Bead Box: Bead Box

7. Smoothing Brush:Smoothing Brush for Flyaways

8. Snood: Hair Snood

If all else fails, buy a snood! It makes bun making easy. Put the hair in a high pony and shove it all into the back of the snood. This may only work for class (check with your studio) but it will give you time to perfect your skills before recital season.
